Websites built to plan her murder were among the threats Alanis Morissette says she faced following her 1995 album "Jagged Little Pill." Appearing on Alex Cooper's "Call Her Daddy" podcast, Morissette described a wave of hostility that extended well beyond critical dismissal or peer rivalry to death threats and coordinated online activity targeting her.
"Jagged Little Pill" reached No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and earned Grammy Awards for Album of the Year and Best Rock Album. "You Oughta Know," the lead single, won Best Rock Song and Best Female Rock Vocal Performance.
By Morissette's account, the album's success produced an almost immediate wave of resistance.
She recalled the response to "You Oughta Know" as one of "terror," though she told Cooper she chose to let people project onto her whatever they wanted. "Project that I'm the Antichrist.
