Anthropic's IPO filing to flag AI backlash and data center opposition as investor risks

Every company going public must itemize, in its prospectus, the risks that could impair the business.

For Anthropic, sources say the filing will name something that has appeared rarely in technology S-1s: organized public opposition to the technology itself, concentrated around two grievances, anger at data center expansion and fear of AI-driven job losses.

The risk-factor section of a prospectus is a legal disclosure. Lawyers and underwriters require it to document anything material enough to affect a shareholder's decision.

Including public AI backlash puts the external environment on record as a real operational constraint.
