Automakers call on Congress to permanently ban Chinese connected vehicles and their components

The connected vehicle is, by design, a persistent data node. Onboard telematics, sensor systems, and software interfaces maintain live network connections that transmit data outward during operation.

Who supplies the hardware and code inside that stack is now the subject of a formal legislative request from the U.S.

automakers are urging Congress to permanently ban the domestic sale, import, and manufacturing of Chinese connected vehicles, hardware, and software.

The request covers all three channels at once: finished vehicles, the components embedded in connected systems, and the software running them. The distinction in scope matters.
