Brazil's AI election rules tested as Bolsonaro avatar surfaces without his authorization

Brazil's regulatory framework for AI-generated political content is under direct examination.

A digital avatar of former president Jair Bolsonaro was projected publicly, prompting a legal challenge from leftwing groups who argue it runs afoul of the country's rules governing artificial intelligence in elections.

Bolsonaro's lawyers responded by insisting he did not authorize the projection. The constraint the rules were built around Regulations on AI-generated political imagery are built on legible chains of authorization.

Someone produces the content, someone directs its use, and the depicted figure either approved it or was kept out of the loop in a way that is itself the violation.
