Delta adds a basic business tier stripped of lounge access and seat selection

The bundled premium cabin fare has been airline revenue management's load-bearing wall for decades: one ticket price covers the seat, the lounge, and the right to choose where you sit. Delta is pulling that bundle apart.

The carrier is launching a "basic business" fare class and other stripped-down premium tiers that preserve the front-of-cabin seat while removing those ancillary benefits.

The unbundling logic Premium cabin pricing has historically worked as an all-in package.

Carriers set a floor that included everything, which meant travelers who cared only about legroom were subsidizing lounge access they never used.
