Indiana's Hoosier the Bison opens the season with a two-act formula that other mascots will study

Hoosier the Bison, the Indiana Hoosiers' reintroduced bison mascot, opened the new college football season at Memorial Stadium with a zip line entry and, separately, a full lap of the field in an IndyCar while the marching band performed.

The sequencing was the point: the zip line ran first, the car came after, and neither stunt telegraphed the other.

Indiana is carrying a 2025 national championship into this season, and Hoosier's sophomore showing suggests the program is running deliberate escalation logic.

The bison had been absent from Indiana's sideline for sixty years before the Hoosiers revived the character last season.
