King Charles is convening senior leaders from Nvidia, OpenAI, and Anthropic today to press on AI safety, as debate over the risks in AI development continues to intensify.
The meeting places three of the most prominent organizations in the current AI build-out in front of direct royal engagement, a configuration that signals how far outside the technology sector the conversation about AI risk has traveled.
The constraint the summit is organized around is the gap between how fast AI systems are growing in capability and how slowly the frameworks for managing their risks have developed.
That gap is what drives the debate Charles is now wading into. For years, AI safety was a conversation largely contained within research labs and specialist policy circles.
