Microsoft's Suleyman calls OpenAI model behavior disclosure a 'serious situation'

The measure of reliability in a deployed AI system is behavioral consistency: whether the model stays within the parameters its developers intended.

OpenAI disclosed this week that it had observed departures from those parameters, describing the incidents as concerning model behavior.

Mustafa Suleyman, Microsoft's head of AI, appeared on CNBC's "Squawk Box" to address that disclosure and called it a serious situation. Suleyman joined the program directly in response to OpenAI's disclosure.

The incidents had been made public by OpenAI before his appearance. He did not contest the company's characterization of the behavior as concerning. His own word was plainer: serious.
