Roundhill brings photonics ETF after DRAM blockbuster

8/6/2026

The constraint photonics is built to solve sits inside the server rack: electrical signaling is approaching a physical ceiling at the interconnect speeds modern AI GPU clusters demand.

Optical interconnects replace copper with light, carrying data at higher bandwidth with lower energy per bit.

Roundhill Investments, which rode the DRAM memory chip trade to blockbuster ETF status in record time, is now targeting photonics with a new thematic fund built on the same logic.

The DRAM fund that preceded it Roundhill's DRAM ETF targeted a specific layer of AI infrastructure: the volatile fast-access memory that sits closest to the compute die and sets a ceiling on how much data a processor can move in a given clock cycle.
