A Greenville County judge denied bond Friday for Naziyha Weatherall, a South Carolina woman charged with attempted murder, carjacking, and possession of a weapon during a violent crime after allegedly stabbing a Lyft driver 11 times and taking his vehicle on April 22.
The ruling keeps Weatherall jailed pending a psychological evaluation scheduled for September. The core of the defense argument at Friday's hearing was mental state.
Weatherall's attorney told the court she had no prior criminal record and was in the grip of a psychiatric emergency during the alleged attack.
Paranoia had convinced her, the attorney said, that she was being monitored and that others intended her harm.
