Ukraine drone strike on Novorossiysk grain terminals raises food market alarm

A grain export terminal is a fixed-purpose asset.

The equipment required to move bulk grain from storage onto a vessel at volume, primarily the silos and the high-tonnage ship loaders, takes years to build and cannot be improvised if knocked out.

That is the constraint here: Novorossiysk is a primary departure point for Russian grain entering Black Sea trade, and its export terminals are where the physical transfer from land to sea happens.

Ukraine's heavy drone assault struck those terminals alongside warships in the port, and warnings about food markets followed.
