Waymo targets Singapore for 2028 robotaxi launch as vehicles prepare to arrive for testing

Deploying a robotaxi service in a new geography runs through a fixed sequence: high-definition map accumulation, supervised testing with human safety drivers, a regulatory safety assessment, and only then commercial operations open to the public.

Waymo, Alphabet's autonomous vehicle subsidiary, has committed to that full pipeline in Singapore, with hardware set to arrive in the city-state within the coming months and fully autonomous public ride-hailing targeted for 2028.

Singapore is the next stated international expansion city for Waymo, which says it continues looking beyond the United States for commercial growth.

The vehicles arriving in the near term will begin the first step of that pipeline: accumulating the sensor-derived map of Singapore's road environment that the autonomous stack requires before supervised testing can start.
