The output is less a fixed script than a calibrated delivery: an internalized sense of where a given approach is likely to land with a specific manager or in a specific context.
Managers are already on this side of the table, and that fact shifts the framing considerably. Rehearsal preparation has typically been positioned as an employee strategy, a way to walk into a salary negotiation with sharper, better-tested language. Managers using the same preparation method means both sides of a performance conversation can be working from AI-assisted framing at the same time.
The constraint these tools address is register. Workplace conversations about money and performance carry a high cost of misreading. A phrase intended as direct can arrive as aggressive. One meant to sound collaborative can read as evasive or uncommitted. Getting that calibration right has historically required access to a trusted sounding board: a mentor, a coach, or a well-placed colleague who has sat in on enough of those conversations to know where the language breaks down. AI tools offer an iteration environment where the user can test phrasing and tone without the social consequences of getting it wrong in the actual room.
The rehearsal use case has now crossed the manager threshold. When the people running performance reviews are using the same AI preparation tools as the employees sitting across from them, the category stops being a workaround and starts functioning as standard preparation.
