Amazon has committed to donating more than $1 billion over the next five years to communities neighboring its data centers. In a press release, Amazon Web Services CEO Matt Garman stated that local communities would determine how to prioritize the funds across education, job training, energy affordability, water, energy preservation, and other local priorities.

The announcement included additional commitments regarding infrastructure impact. Amazon pledged to ensure that its data centers would not increase power bills for local residents or deplete local water supplies. The company also claimed it would be water positive by 2030, noting that 75 percent of its projects have already met that goal.
