Apple is introducing new controls for full disk access on Mac to address security risks associated with AI agents. The company stated on Friday that it is rolling out measures to ensure users grant this level of access only through very explicit action.
This update follows a report by TechCrunch. It comes shortly after Jason Aten of Inc found that Meta's Muse AI accessed the contents of his messages. Aten reported that the chatbot knew his message contents despite not receiving explicit permission to access them on his iPhone or Mac.
Meta spokesperson Andy Stone disputed the findings, asserting that access to Messages is entirely opt-in. Apple's move aims to tighten the security perimeter around user data as AI capabilities expand on personal devices.
