Secondary transfers of large AI equity blocks require buyers capable of absorbing concentrated positions without fragmenting them into the open market. Ken Griffin's flagship Citadel fund provided that capacity, purchasing billions of dollars in AI stocks from Situational Awareness, Leopold Aschenbrenner's firm. Citadel surged 6% following the transaction.

What the block move signals

The constraint here is size. At multi-billion-dollar volumes in a sector where a small number of names carry most of the weight, the buyer's identity is as informative as the price. Citadel's willingness to absorb the block signals that Griffin's fund saw value in the AI exposure Aschenbrenner's vehicle had accumulated.

For Situational Awareness, the sale converted a large AI equity position into a cash exit that required a counterparty of unusual depth. The 6% gain Citadel posted after the transaction closed is the sharpest measure available of how directly those AI names shifted the fund's performance.
