Cody Wilson has claimed the title of first AI-made gun for a new 3D-printed firearm called the WASP. Wilson, who previously created the first 3D-printed firearm 13 years ago, presented the device outside Defense Distributed headquarters in Austin, Texas.
The WASP is a .22 caliber handgun that Wilson describes as little more than a pistol barrel attached to a spring-loaded plastic box. During a demonstration, Wilson and an assistant clamped the weapon to a DIY test mount while an observer stood approximately 20 feet away. The rudimentary design bears a resemblance to Wilson's earlier single-shot 3D-printed Liberator.
Wilson, a gun-rights activist, has been associated with the production of untraceable ghost guns. The Verge reported on the development, noting that the full story details the specific AI coding methods used in the weapon's creation.
