CoreWeave stock has lost 56.9% over the past twelve months, a decline that contrasts with the company more than doubling its revenue during the same period. At $61.12, the shares trade near their lowest close of the year, trailing the 17.4% return of the S&P 500. This price action reflects a shift in the company's financial profile, moving from an operating profit to an operating loss.
The valuation metric for CoreWeave has dropped significantly based on sales. The shares currently trade at 4.4 times the last twelve months of revenue, down from 18.9 times a year earlier. This lower multiple coincides with a change in operational profitability; over the past year, CoreWeave moved from an operating margin of 6.3% to an operating loss of 3.0% of revenue. While the price-to-earnings ratio is meaningless due to the net loss, the company generated $6.9 billion in cash from operations.
However, infrastructure spending outpaces operational cash generation. CoreWeave reported negative free cash flow of $13.7 billion over the twelve-month period. The company’s balance sheet shows total debt equal to 153.2% of its market value, a leverage ratio that stands in sharp contrast to the 20.0% average for the S&P 500. Despite these cash flow pressures, management cited a significant backlog of signed contracts on an August 11 call, stating revenue backlog ended June at $104.2 billion, up 246% from a year earlier.
Analyst expectations for the upcoming fiscal quarter set a high bar for CoreWeave. Estimates project revenue of about $3.62 billion for fiscal Q3 2026, which sits just above the top of management’s guide of $3.45 billion to $3.6 billion. This target represents a substantial increase from the $2.58 billion reported for the April to June quarter. The current share price appears to assume that management will deliver on statements made in August, including a roughly 25% price increase across products in July and a claim that near-term capacity remains effectively sold out.
Management has also raised its full-year 2026 revenue guide to $12.4 billion to $13.2 billion. CoreWeave is expected to report results for fiscal Q3 2026, covering the July to September quarter, on or around November 11, 2026. This report will be the first to include the impact of the July price increase.
The investment case hinges on how actual revenue compares to both management's guidance and analyst forecasts. If revenue lands below the bottom of the guide, buying at current levels would have been premature. A result that falls short of analyst expectations but remains within the guide would leave the argument for patience unbroken. Only when revenue exceeds analyst forecasts and management raises its full-year outlook again would the rationale for waiting cease to apply.
