The Debian Linux project has opened a call for community artwork submissions for the upcoming Debian 14, codenamed Forky. Selected designs will appear on boot screens, login prompts, and desktop wallpapers for millions of users. The deadline is November 26.
The submission process follows the community-driven approach used in previous releases. Artwork must feel distinctively Debian, integrate cleanly without requiring core software patching, and remain visually appealing over time. The Debian team advises against overly busy designs that could cause user fatigue.
For the prior release, Debian 13 Trixie, Elise Couper's "Ceratopsian" theme was chosen as the default. Release names are derived from characters in the Toy Story franchise. Trixie was a triceratops introduced in Toy Story 3, aligning with the winning submission's theme. Forky is a character introduced in the franchise's fourth entry.
