Charles Ducking, 76, allegedly admitted to consuming rum and using cocaine during a traffic stop in Waverly, Florida, four months after a prior driving under the influence arrest, the Polk County Sheriff's Office reported. The incident occurred on U.S. Highway 27, where a sheriff's deputy observed the vehicle swerving before initiating the stop. Upon approach, the deputy detected the odor of alcohol and noted that Ducking had slurred speech and watery eyes. When requested to provide identification, Ducking stated his driver's license was suspended due to a previous DUI conviction. According to the sheriff's office, Ducking then presented a silver thermal cup containing a brown liquid, identifying it as rum. A traffic deputy who arrived to conduct a formal investigation recognized Ducking from his May arrest for DUI. During a search of the vehicle, deputies located a small orange container holding cocaine. This discovery reportedly led Ducking to tell law enforcement he had used cocaine ten minutes prior to being pulled over. Field sobriety tests indicated impairment, and two breath tests recorded blood alcohol concentrations of .094 and .095, exceeding Florida's .08 legal limit. Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd criticized the repeat offense in a statement, describing the situation as dangerous and urging Ducking to make significant lifestyle changes. Judd also commended deputies for their proactive efforts to remove impaired drivers from the road. Ducking was booked into the Polk County Jail facing accusations of a fourth-time drunk driving incident, holding controlled substances, operating a vehicle with a revoked permit, and keeping equipment for drug use. Records indicate Ducking was previously arrested for DUI in May and released on bond with conditions prohibiting alcohol consumption. The sheriff's office noted that Ducking has accumulated nine other arrests in Polk County since 2001, including multiple DUI incidents.
