The Federal Communications Commission has granted Intel a one-year waiver. It allows the chipmaker to continue using foreign-made robots in its US semiconductor manufacturing facilities. The agency published its order on October 22. This decision permits Intel to operate the equipment despite a broader ban on certain foreign-made robots.

Intel requested the waiver "out of an abundance of caution." Confusion had arisen regarding how the ban applied to its operations. The company sought to ensure it could keep using specific robotic vehicles within its US chip fabs without interruption. The FCC’s decision highlights the uncertainty surrounding the scope of the government ban on these devices.

According to Intel’s website, the robots involved are automated guided vehicles. They operate on tracks or predefined paths. These vehicles often require operator oversight while moving materials and items across warehouse and factory floors.
