Amy Kremer, chairwoman of the advocacy group Humans First, is calling on the federal government to implement safety guardrails for artificial intelligence companies, specifically to protect children and prevent mass displacement of American workers. Kremer, a longtime Tea Party advocate and supporter of the MAGA movement, argues that current regulations are insufficient to address risks posed by the technology.

Kremer told Fox News Digital that if a chatbot manipulates a child into suicide, the responsible company is not required to report the incident to the federal government. She cited the 2025 mass shooting at Florida State University, which killed two people and injured six others, as an example of AI misuse. Court documents in that case allege that the shooter, Phoenix Ikner, used ChatGPT to plan aspects of the attack. The company was sued by the wife of one victim, and Florida opened a criminal investigation into the firm.

Kremer compares the current lack of oversight to the aviation industry, where flight attendants must report every issue to the government. She believes AI companies should face scrutiny similar to that imposed on hospitals and pharmaceutical companies under the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). She noted that lawsuits by victims or their families are often the only way such incidents become public knowledge.

The call for regulation comes as AI becomes a central issue ahead of the 2026 midterm elections. While some Democrats seek to rein in the technology, the Trump administration aims to maintain innovation and competition in its race with China. Kremer stated that she supports America winning the AI race but believes safety and innovation are not mutually exclusive. "I am not siding with the Democrats," she said. "I am not a tech person. I'm not anti-AI. I'm not anti-technology. I'm not anti-data center." She characterized AI companies as non-partisan entities driven by contractual interests rather than ideology, noting their recent alignment with the current administration.

A White House official told Fox News Digital that the administration's priority is ensuring a booming economy with limited volatility for workers from short-term disruptions. The official stated the goal is for workers to access high-paying jobs and adapt easily to new technologies. Regarding child safety, the official pointed to the National Policy Framework on Artificial Intelligence. This framework urges Congress to implement measures such as parental controls for content exposure and privacy settings. It also requests the establishment of age assurance requirements for AI platforms accessed by minors and safeguards against child sexual exploitation and self-harm.
