Meta has released Muse Wonder, its newest artificial intelligence model, positioning it as the most advanced option for powering digital assistants. The model is not free; users of the Muse personal agent app must subscribe to a monthly plan costing either $20 or $100 to access it. This move highlights Meta's push to generate new revenue from AI services beyond its core online advertising business.
Alexandr Wang, Meta's AI chief, stated in a Monday interview that the company developed Muse Wonder, which carried the internal codename Watermelon, to enhance the capabilities of personal and professional agents. The goal is to prevent these agents from stumbling on practical tasks, such as booking dinner reservations or checking availabilities. Wang noted that real-world tasks often involve roadblocks and setbacks. The team specifically trained the model to attempt alternative approaches rather than stalling or immediately checking back in with the user.
In a blog post, Meta claimed that Muse Wonder offers its strongest safeguards to date against cyber misuse. Currently, these protections are available only with the paid version of the model. The Muse app itself remains free, with subscription plans offering additional usage, and it rose to the top of Apple's App Store after its introduction last month.
Wang said Meta's AI team has been monitoring for agent-related incidents or issues with Muse to identify and resolve problems. Some users have complained on social media that the agent accessed personal messages without authorization, a claim the company has disputed. Wang acknowledged that users may authorize various communications earlier in a conversation and later forget about that permission. He added that the company is educating users on these matters to ensure consumers can trust the product going forward.
Muse Wonder will also be accessible to coders who pay for access to Meta's related Model API. Wang indicated that this offering will cost more than the standard subscriptions because it is a much larger, frontier-level model. However, he stated that the price will remain meaningfully below leading models from OpenAI and Anthropic.
A more powerful variant, dubbed Muse Wonder Full, will be available exclusively to developers who sign up for Meta's software engineering-focused Muse Code AI agent. This tier requires a subscription plan of $50 or $200 per month.
