Three new "major" discoveries in mathematics, computer science, and physics have been added to GitHub by OpenAI. This release follows the company's mass publication of hundreds of manuscripts containing solutions to long-standing mathematics questions less than a month ago.
The approach differs from the previous release in its use of external experts. OpenAI describes these experts as "shepherds" who guided the results in computer science and physics. For the mathematics problem, the company stated that the experts advised it to release the AI output so researchers could work through their own explanations.
Among the results added to GitHub is a proof concerning local smoothing for the Euclidean wave equation, which uses an auxiliary parabolic method.
