SpaceX Vice President Michael Nicolls called for improved data-sharing among satellite operators during a presentation at the International Astronautical Congress in Turkey. The executive, who also serves as president of Elon Musk's artificial intelligence company xAI, stated that space has sufficient room for additional megaconstellations only if operators share information regarding satellite locations and trajectories. This statement followed recent near-miss incidents involving the Starlink constellation. Nicolls delivered the remarks on Tuesday, framing the need for better coordination in low-Earth orbit. The Starlink network currently consists of more than 11,000 satellites, which represents approximately two-thirds of all active spacecraft in that orbital region. Radars and telescopes routinely track thousands of pieces of space debris.
