Strivve describes its solution as making the issuer's card "the one the AI agent uses," automatically and securely, across what it calls the long tail of merchants. That last phrase is the operational claim worth watching. Large-merchant integrations are a known quantity; the long tail, the smaller and mid-market merchants that account for the bulk of commerce by site count, is where default-card positioning has historically been contested because these merchants rely on third-party payment platforms that establish their own credential hierarchies outside the issuer's control.

Issuer reach across the full market

Strivve frames this as infrastructure for the full issuer spectrum, naming community credit unions alongside the largest banks as target customers. The implication is that agentic checkout positioning becomes accessible without the technology staff and merchant partnership resources that large issuers deploy for traditional card-on-file placement. Whether that symmetry holds operationally will depend on how AI agents surface and rank credentials, and whether those ranking signals favor issuer metadata or default to consumer-set preferences stored elsewhere in the agent stack.
