Walmart will begin allowing artificial intelligence agents to shop on its website next month. The retailer plans to enable users to connect their own AI agents to the platform, with systems in place to approve and review purchases and set spending limits.
This approach contrasts with Amazon, which blocked Perplexity's shopping agent and Meta's Muse AI assistant. Walmart is opening access to AI shoppers provided they adhere to specific rules. The company has outlined terms stating that agents must not take actions beyond what the shopper intends and cannot change a customer's payment method. The Verge reported on the development.
