Meta has resolved a software defect in Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses that caused the devices to record conversations without user activation. The issue occurred when users did not use the "Hey, Meta" voice command, meaning the AI assistant was capturing audio without explicit consent. Meta states the bug has been fixed.

This week, users reported the malfunction on online forums. One Reddit user, Kindly-Audience-137, stated that the recording happened across three separate Ray-Ban Meta devices. The user confirmed that the "Respond without Hey Meta" setting was disabled during the incidents. According to the report, the Meta AI app saved both audio recordings and text transcripts of these unintended captures to the user's conversation history.

The user argued that the incident warranted a serious technical investigation. They noted that customers should not have to question whether their private conversations are being captured when they have not intentionally activated the glasses' AI assistant.
